A couple of weeks ago I read a “thesis” about the Son-Rise Program® and TEACCH. They compare the two therapies in a lot of ways, but a couple of affirmations about the Son-Rise Program® caught my attention:
“family involvement led to more drawbacks that benefits”
“family stress levels did not rise”
So today, we had a great “therapy” session with Sophie, we played various games, dance, twirled and at a very special moment while playing memory I was praising her eye contact and she stopped and said:
“Is that why you went to school? to learn how to look at me?”
On Sunday 18 I began one of the most important adventures in my life 🙂
Sophie, my daughter, has autism, is what doctors would label as “high functioning autism”. We have tried several types of therapy that had taken us from Maryland to California, North Carolina and now Massachusetts.
Four years ago we found out about the “son-rise program“. A different kind of therapy, where parents connect with their own child by being their therapist.
